While much of the country is facing snow and freezing temperatures, Sanibel Island is thriving with activity! February and March are still peak tourist season, which means local establishments are offering some of their best entertainment of the whole year. FREE Gators & Crocs Day at Ding Darling
Saturdays in February and March
The “Ding” Darling Animal Refuge is offering some incredible FREE programs this season that will both educate and delight the entire family! Among these offerings are Gator & Croc day each Saturday in February & March. Learn the difference between alligators, crocodiles, gharials, and other members of the Order Crocodilia! Remember your sunscreen, water bottle, and mosquito repellent, and learn more about this fun event (and others!) here.
Sunset Dolphin Cruise
February 14, 5:15 – 6:45pm
Need a last minute Valentine’s Day date idea? The Sunset Dolphin Cruise put on by Adventures in Paradise, Inc. makes for a beautiful and romantic evening! Watch the sunset with your loved one while listening to tropical music and cruising the serene waters of the San Carlos Bay. Free soft drinks, water, and cupcakes are included with your fair. Make sure you buy tickets ahead of time!
Sanibel Arts & Crafts Festival
February 16 & 17
Held annually by the Rotary Club, the Sanibel Arts & Crafts Festival hosts more than 120 of the nation’s most talented artists in a tree-lined show at the Sanibel Community House. Add in food vendors and an incredible silent auction and you’ve got the makings of a fun and memorable weekend. Our favorite part? Proceeds from entrance fees go to a great cause, supporting college scholarships as well as many important regional and national projects. Learn more here.

The Grammy Award-winning Parker String Quartet will be dazzling the audience at our very own Schein Hall. The highly sought ensemble has performed at renowned music centers such as Schubert Club, Skidmore College, St. John’s College, University of South Carolina, Kansas City’s Friends of Chamber Music, as well as the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C. If you’ve got an ear for fantastic music, you won’t want to miss out on this incredible performance.
Sanibel Shell Festival
Did you know that Sanibel Island is known around the world for its sea shells? This makes it the perfect location for a sea shell show (say that 10 times fast)! Immerse yourself in the fascinating world of shells and the mollusks that make them at the 82nd Annual Sanibel Shell Show & Festival. In addition to the exhibits containing sea shells from around the world, there will be t-shirts, artwork, and shells for sale as well as live mollusk tanks. Peek at the Unique Home Tour
This event WILL sell out! Join a guided tour to check out four of the most unique and lovely homes on Sanibel Island! As an attendant, you’ll get a tour and information about each of the featured homes, as well as food and refreshments provided by some of the top chefs and restaurant on the island. Tour proceeds benefit the Zonta Foundation, whose mission is to empower women and girls on island, in Lee County and throughout the world. You can learn more and buy tickets here.
BIG ARTS Community Chorus Spring Concert:
March 27 & 28, 7:00 PM
